Student Activities

The wide variety of campus activities represents the many interests and strengths of the student body and the faculty members who act as advisors for these programs. Through such activities, students develop talents, broaden horizons and explore new interests.

Students can write for the newspaper or work as a radio announcer or help others through organizations such as the Human Relations Committee or Community Service Group. They can sing, conduct school tours or play in the wind ensemble. There are many outlets for Blair students to remain active outside of class.

Through student government, students take active roles in affecting the issues of concern to their class and the school as a whole. Other Blair students reach out locally and globally through the Community Service Group, a student-led organization that works to develop and facilitate community service activities for Blair and the community beyond.

Blair International Awareness Club
Blair International Awareness Club (B.I.A.C.) brings together Blair’s international students and students from the United States to learn about each others’ cultures and languages. The Club meets weekly to practice language skills in a social setting.

Theatre and the Arts
The Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts provides a 500 seat theater for major productions and a smaller black box theater for one-act plays. The Blair Academy Players entertain the Blair community with three major productions each year. A smaller production is presented in the winter to accommodate the many students who wish to participate in this popular activity. The Arts Center also houses a gallery for the monthly student and faculty art exhibits, well-equipped art studios, a dance studio, a photography lab and performance and practice facilities for the various choral and instrumental groups.

Multicultural Student Union
Multicultural Student Union (MSU) is a student organization dedicated to diversity issues in the Blair community.

Society of Skeptics
Sponsored by the history department, The Society of Skeptics presents weekly hosts speakers and events that keep the Blair community in touch with contemporary issues. The Skeptics lecture of the previous evening becomes the topic of discussion the next day in class and at the dinner table.

The Tuesday evening, post-dinner format usually includes a 40-minute lecture followed by a brief question and answer period. Programs are open to the entire community: students, faculty, parents, friends and interested area residents. A current listing of the Skeptics program is available here.

Blair Academy Singers
The Blair Academy Singers is a select group of singers chosen because of their vocal ability, dedication, and love for the choral music tradition. The mixed-gender choir sings a widely varied repertoire and executes a highly demanding rehearsal and performance schedule throughout the school year. Click here to find out more about the Singers.

Model UN
In recent years, the Model UN delegation has attended conferences at University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, and Georgetown University. Student participants take the role of a particular country and learn the art of diplomacy in passing legislation expressing the viewpoint of the country which they represent.

Student Government
Through Student Government, students can take an active role in affecting the issues of concern to their class and the school as a whole. Class Councils are elected from the student body for each class and meet regularly to discuss matters of importance to their respective classes. The School Council, consisting of the Senior Class Council and underclass council representatives, discuss issues of school-wide concern at regular meetings.

Community Service
Blair students reach out locally and globally through the Community Service Group, a student-led organization that works to develop and facilitate community service activities for Blair and the community beyond. Recent undertakings have included tutoring at local schools, building projects for the homeless, raising money for a battered women’s shelter and participating in the Big Brother/Big Sister program.

Blue and White Key Society
