  The Classroom

Blair classrooms are active places. The average class size of eleven to twelve students insures individual attention as it provides a forum for open group discussion, participation, and a “hands-on” approach to learning. In history, students study past events such as the Industrial Revolution; they also read The New York Times everyday, learning to make connections between the past and present. In science, they study principles of physics; they also work in the lab, learning to handle equipment as they perform experiments. Every freshman and sophomore English class meets daily in one of two computer labs, each with 15 or 16 computer terminals. From their first day at Blair, students begin reading and writing extensively. They learn to use the computer as a tool to edit and revise their work and are encouraged to explore and experiment with a multimedia approach to research and analysis in preparing informative, thought-provoking papers. Virtually all math classes make use of computer and advanced calculator technology, and physics and chemistry courses incorporate computer technology as well.

Passionate about their subject matter, Blair teachers bring energy and experience to their lessons. Equally as important, Blair’s teachers enjoy young people. That is why they are chosen and have chosen to teach here. They understand that to inspire in students a lifelong commitment to learning, they must encourage, challenge and support students on a daily basis. Such teaching is an exciting, active and demanding enterprise.
