Blair shortstop picked in the 2004 Major League Draft

Blair Academy’s senior Joe Florio was selected by the Oakland A’s in the 39th round of the 2004 Major League Draft on Tuesday, June 8. Joe spent 3 years at Blair where he had a tremendous career and is now off to play at the University of Virginia. Florio was one of only ten high school players selected in the state of New Jersey.

Blair Academy senior Joe Florio made his decision final on Wednesday, November 12, by accepting a baseball scholarship from the University of Virginia. Florio, a three-year student from Mount Holly, N.J., has been the baseball team’s shortstop the last two seasons and the top hitter on the ball club. His junior season, Joe was one of the top hitters in the league with a .498 batting average, 24 runs batted in, and five homeruns. Joe was also named to the first team Mid Atlantic Prep League All-Stars and the NJ Prep All Stars in 2003.
