Recaps 2011-2012 Season
2/22 - Blair 57 - St. Benedicts 81
The 2011-12 season came to a close tonight in the Prep A State Final against St. Benedict's (28-1), the #5 team in the nation. The Bucs fell behind early and were never able to recover, losing by the score of 81-57. Mike Tobey had a game-high 33 points in the last game of his Blair career. This season Blair had a record of 18-7 and won the 2012 MAPL Championship (Coach Mantegna's 7th in his 13 years). The Bucs retain 10 letterwinners for the 2012-13 season.
2/18 - Blair 64 - Hun 48
Blair (18-6) beat MAPL rival the Hun School yesterday for the second time this week and the 4th time this season by a score of 64-48 in the Stae Prep A semifinal. The Bucs made ten 3-point shots and got 15 points apiece from UVA bound big man Mike Tobey and point guard Jermaine Myers. The Bucs will travel to St Benedicts Wednesday for the State Final. It will be the Bucs 11th trip to the state Prep A Finals in the last 13 years and the 7th time these two schools have met in the final in that span.
2/12 - Blair 73 - Hun 59
Blair defeated the Hun School in the MAPL Championship on Sunday
It was Blair's 7th MAPL title in the last 13 years. It was the third time this season that the Bucs have beaten the Hun School. Jermaine Myers led the Bucs with 25 points and Mike Tobey chipped in with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Also in double figures for Blair was senior captain Joe Hart with 13 points. Sean Lubreski scored two big hoops in the final quarter to help seal the Blair victory.
2/11 - Blair 59 - Peddie 40
Blair defeated Peddie in the MAPL Tournament Semi-Final at the Hun School by a score of 59-40. Mike Tobey led the Bucs with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Jermaine Myers had 12 assists and Joe Geller chipped in with 7 rebounds. Overall, it was a great effort by the Bucs!
2/4 - Blair 55 - Graham High School 36
The Blair basketball team traveled all the way to Ohio to play St. Paris Graham this weekend. It was a routine win for the Bucs as they played good defense and offense to secure the win in their annual Ohio game.
2/1 - Blair 51 - West Point Prep 86
Blair played West Point Prep and unfortunately were not able to get the result they wanted. Blair got off to a slow start and was unable to get back into the game as West Point Prep put in a strong performance for the duration of the game.
1/24 - Blair 77 - Army Prep 66
The Bucs had their work cut out for them as they faced a strong West Point team today. The game was extremely close with the Bucs ending the third quarter down by six. As the fourth quarter got underway, it began to look like West Point would run away with the match as they once had a 17 point lead. However, Blair picked it up and had an incredible defensive and offensive final six minutes of the game and ended up winning 77 to 66.
Jermaine Myers led the team in scoring with 26 points, 17 of which he scored in the fourth quarter. Mike Tobey was right behind him with 21 points in the game. Everyone put on a good defensive display especially Jihaad Pretlow to help secure the Blair victory.
1/14 - Blair 68 - Lawrencville 50
The Bucs continue to play well as they beat Lawrencville in Saturday's game. The entire team showed their skill with six different players scoring over five points and three of those six scoring over ten. Their defense was at its best as they held Lawrencville to just 20 points in the first half and only nine points in the third quarter. Blair is still undefeated in the MAPL and is looking to maintain that record as they head to Hill this Wednesday.
1/11 - Blair 59 - Peddie 51
Blair played their MAPL rivals Peddie on Wednesday; Blair was able to put in a very solid performance taking the lead in the first quarter and maintaining that lead throughout the game. Jihaad Pretlow and Mike Tobey were the main contributors on offense, Pretlow scored 11 points and Tobey scored 27. The entire team played an important role including the men off the bench. All in all, it was a very good game.
1/9 - Blair 79 - Pocono Mountain East 65
Blair started their game against Pocono Mountain East with a pretty strong first half. They continued to build on their early lead and ended the half up by a score of 37 to 21. The second half was much more even, a few times it even appeared that Pocono Mountain was making their way for a comeback; however, Blair was able to finish off the game with a score of 79 to 65.
1/7 - Blair 64 - Pocono Mountain West 48
Blair played a very close first half at the end of which Pocono Mountain led the Bucs 31 to 29. However, Blair performed very strongly in the second half. Defensively, they held PMW to just 17 points. Mike Tobey, who has been struggling with an ankle injury, put in an incredible effort to score 20 points in the second half to help secure Blairs victory of 64 to 48.
1/5 - Blair 66 Hun 46
Blair faced Hun in Blair's first home MAPL game of the season. Blair was able to take an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they only continued to increase that lead. Joe Hart scored seven three pointers giving him twenty-one points on the night. Solid defense by the whole team allowed Blair to comfortably win the game.
12/17 - Blair 65 Our Savior 81
Losing by three at the half, the Bucs needed to come out strong in the second half, but Our Savior continued to build on their lead until the fourth quarter in which Mike Tobey put up 11 points despite having to come out of the game due to an injury. It wasn't enough, however, and Our Savior beat Blair Academy 81 to 65.
12/11 - Blair 86 - Suffield 75
On Sunday, Blair won a hard-fought battle over Suffield Academy (CT) by the score of 86-75. After being tied at 40 at the half, Blair buckled down its defense and began the half with a 15-2 run and never trailed again.
12/10 - Blair 79 - Andover 38
Blair had a great trip to Boston this weekend chalking up two wins at the Scholar Roundball Classic held at Babson College. In Saturday's action, Blair defeated Phillips Andover Academy by the score of 79-38. The Bucs built their lead with the help of 11 made three pointers off the bench. |
