Scott Named Ivy League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week

Freshman scores eight points in Big Red’s 77-47 win over Columbia
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Will Scott (New York, N.Y.) has been named Ivy league Rookie of the Week after helping the Big Red to its biggest league victory in 19 years. The award is the first weekly Ivy honor for Scott.

Scott notched eight points and a career-best four rebounds as the Big Red topped Columbia 77-47 on Jan. 22. Scott nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to snap a Columbia run early in the second half that had whittled a 26-point lead to 16 with more than 16 minutes to play. All four of his rebounds came on the defensive end as Scott saw a career-best 19 minutes of action.

The sharpshooting freshman has now hit on eight 3-pointers in his last three games, averaging 9.7 ppg. during that span. For the season, Scott ranks second in the the Ivy League with his .526 3-point percentage. For the season he averages 4.7 ppg.

Scott was ranked among the top 50 fifth-year players in the country after competing in 2003-04 at Blair Academy (N.J.). He helped Blair win the Boys’ Club Holiday Tournament, earning MVP honors. Scott became the Collegiate School’s all-time leading scorer as a senior (2,124 career points), averaging 27.8 points per game in his final year after posting 23.0 ppg. as a junior and 22.0 ppg. as a sophomore. He was named first-team all-league in each of his final three years, as well as second-team all-city and all-state as a senior. A tremendous shooter, Scott connected on 40 percent of his 3-point attempts at the Collegiate School and 84 percent from the free-throw line. As a senior, he shot better than 55 percent from the field.

Scott is the son of Drs. Norman and Susan Scott and has an older brother, Eric, who played basketball at Penn, and a younger sister. His father is the New York Knicks team doctor, while his mother is the team doctor for the New York Liberty.
