The Siena men's basketball team picked up their second recruit for the 2011-12 season when 6-9 power forward Lionel Gomis of Blair Academy gave his oral commitment on Tuesday, Blair Academy coach Joe Mantegna confirmed via text message this morning.
Siena beat out Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Rider and Loyola (Chicago) for Gomis, a native of Senegal, who averaged 9 points and 8 rebounds for Blair Academy last season.
Gomis moved to the United States in June 2008.
"Quite frankly, he's nowhere near his ceiling," Mantegna said last month, after Gomis made his official visit. "He's going to be a better college player than a high school player."
Gomis joins shooting guard Rob Poole of Paul VI High School in Haddonfield, N.J. as members of Siena's recruiting class for next season. Siena head coach Mitch Buonaguro has two more scholarships to offer.
