An Introduction to Blair Ice Hockey
The rich tradition of the Blair hockey program dates back to the 1940s. Currently in its tenth year back as a program, Blair hockey offers athletes of various abilities a chance to develop their skills and to play interscholastic hockey. Our program is dedicated to developing student-athletes to their full potential, on the ice and in the classroom.

The team practices or has games five-six days a week, in the prime afternoon ice-slot of 4:00-5:30 pm at the Chill Out Ice Arena in Hackettstown, N.J., a 20-minute trip from campus. We compete against other independent schools such as Hill, Hun, Lawrenceville, MKA, Mo-Beard, Pennington, Pingry, Princeton Day School, Rye Country Day and Wyoming Seminary.

Blair hockey prides itself on building a hard working group that plays with passion and good sportsmanship. Practices are designed to help players improve their individual skills as well as become better team players. One goal of the program is to prepare student-athletes for their futures in hockey and in life.

Prep school hockey is some of the most competitive high school hockey in the country; many players go on to compete at the collegiate level. Blair graduates who played hockey for the Bucs have played and are now playing at the college level. Some of the programs our players are associated with include:

  • Cornell JV
  • University of Denver
  • Lehigh University
  • Naval Academy
  • New York University
  • St. Michael’s College
  • Skidmore
  • Virginia Tech
  • University of Virginia

Blair’s hockey coaches have played at the secondary and collegiate levels. Head coach is Eric Lunger, who is also a Latin teacher and assistant housemaster at Blair.
