Chamberlin Wins at Canterbury
First Time Ever for Blair Racer
Head cross country coach Dr. Marty Miller reports exciting news: “For the first time, a Blair boy has been victorious at the 38th Annual Canterbury Invitational (large school division) cross country race, which attracts many of the most competitive New England prep school runners. Scott Chamberlin ’11 ran away from the field and won by more than a 30-second margin, a stunning performance.”
This particular competition took place on a 3.1-mile course in New Milford, Conn.; the 38th race was run on Saturday, September 25. Dr. Miller, who has been coaching cross country for over 30 years, provides the details: “On a hot day and facing a challenging, hilly course, the Blair runners excelled individually and finished third as a team. It was arguably one of Blair’s best racing days in recent memory. Scott Chamberlin ran away from the field in an outstanding 16:08 clocking over 30 seconds ahead of the second runner from Andover. Chris Miller ran a brilliant race placing fourth (16:56), and a solid duo of Evan Redos (27) and Mark Scully (28) crossed the finish line in 18:08. Sam Nashed (39th place, 18:41) was a strong fifth man; Greg Park (54th place, 19:40) and Ted Peacock (90th place, 20:27) rounded out the team. It’s always a pleasure competing at Canterbury, where the accent is on competition, sportsmanship and gracious hosting. Hats off to the families making the long trek to New Milford; three cheers for Mrs. Redos and her camera. Though a computer glitch jumbled the list of individual runners, the team results below should be accurate.”
