Welcome to Blair Girls’ Squash! Thank you for your interest in the Blair girls’ squash program.

Our excellent facility in Tracy Hall includes three international squash courts, and with the rising popularity of the sport, the courts are always bustling with students and faculty alike. During the fall and spring, experienced players and beginners take advantage of the recreational squash program which provides additional practice outside of the winter season.

Interscholastic competition begins in late November and runs through mid-February. Varsity and JV teams play a competitive schedule against other schools in the MAPL, in addition to non-league teams. Frequent opponents include Lawrenceville, Hill, Mercersburg, Hackley, Brearley, Stuart, Poly Prep, and Pingry. Blair is also the host of the New Jersey Tournament, attracting many high school squash players in the area. The season ends with the MAPL Tournament. This year, we are excited to make our second trip to the National High School Team Championship held at Yale University.

During the 2004-2005 season, Blair finished second in the MAPL, and we are working to surpass this ranking this season.

Returning members to the 2005-2006 Varsity squad are Leah Gardner ’06, Anne Newall ’06, Sasha Fisher ’06, Kara Fisher ’06, Zoe Fisher ’06, and Kara Liebowitz ’07.

Graduates from Blair’s Girls’ squash have gone on to compete at Colby College and Bowdoin College.

This is my first year as the coach of the girls’ squash team. I began my squash career in high school where I played the number one position on my team for two years. I went on to play varsity for four years at Bates College, and captained the team my senior year. While playing at Bates, my team raised our ranking to ninth in the country, winning the Kurtz cup championship for the last two consecutive years. I’m really looking forward to continuing my squash career as a coach.

At Blair I teach history, work in the admissions office, and coach recreational squash in the fall. At Blair, there are many opportunities for players of all skill levels, and I am so excited that interest in squash continues to grow. The majority of the current varsity team learned how to play squash at Blair, and our success is a testament to their hard work and dedication to this challenging sport.

I look forward to speaking with anyone interested in learning more about the program. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I can be reached by email at smithm@blair.edu or by phone at 908-362-2014.
