5/16 - Boy's State Track Meet 2012 Recap
Lawrenceville 216, St Benedicts 133, Peddie 111, Blair 24, Hun 8
Blair hosted the NJSIAA State Track meet for the first time on May 16, 2012. With Demetrius Daltrius, Brennan O'Connor and Jon Nowell injured, the boys' team was not at full strength. Serem ran a strong 1600 meter race but was unable to hold off the St Benedicts and Lawrenceville runners and finished third in 4:32.89. Gunn Woo Park tied for second place in the vault with his best jump of the season at 10' 6". In the throwing events co-captain Mac Macleod took fourth in the shot with his best throw of 43'9" and Alex Wolf took fourth in the discus with an impressive throw of 132'7". Other scorers included Gunn Woo Park in the 400 meter hurdles with a sixth place time of 1:05.57 and Lucas Barbey in the high jump with a fifth place jump of 6'0". Ryan Wood and Lucas Barbey tied for 5th in the pole vault each with jumps of 10'0". Zach O'Connor narrowly missed scoring in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with seventh place finishes of 11.86 and 23. 62. Kevin Seymour sustained a groin injury and was unable to compete in the 200 meter though he finished eighth in both the long jump and 100 meter dash. Mark Jones also ran his season best of 2:13.97 in the 800 to finish just behind Jas Kahlam who ran 2:11.28.
5/12 - Boys' MAPL Results 2012 - 4th
Lawrenceville 250, Peddie 120, Hill 91, Blair 63, Mercersburg 25, Hun 6
The MAPL Championship meet produced some outstanding performances from Blair athletes. Kelvin Serem turned in two sub two minute performances in his leg of the 4 by 800 and in the open 800m run. The team of Jaz Kahlam, Matt DeSalvio, Mark Jones and Serem took third in the 4 by 800 with a time of 8:51.72. Serem later came back with a 1:59.3 in the 800 to take second and then anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay to a fourth place time of 3:48.39. Other members of the 4 by 400 team besides Serem were Nic Flora, Zach O'Connor and Lucas Barbey. Brennan O'Connor also had two personal bests , finishing sixth in the high hurdles in 17.53 and second in the 400 meter dash in 53.64. Sprinters Kevin Seymour, Zach O'Connor, Demetrius Daltrius and Gunn woo Park ran their best time of the season in the 4 by 100 to take second place in 45.66. Kevin Seymour added a 3rd place in the 200 m dash in 23.65 and a fifth in the 100 meter dash in 11.76. Zach O'Connor took sixth in both the 100 (11.84) and in the 200 (24.42). Gunn Woo also finished sixth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 65.5. Ryan Wood took third in the pole vault with a jump of 10'6", and Lucas Barbey took sixth vaulting 10'0". Lucas also earned fifth place in the high jump with a jump of 5' 10". Co-captain Mac McLeod took fourth in the shot with his best throw of the season at 43'6", and Alex Wolf took fourth in the discus with a personal best of 132'1".
5/12 - Girls' MAPL Results 2012 - 5th
The girls' track team placed 5th at Saturday's MAPL championships. The meet featured strong competition and some of the best performances we've seen all spring. Scorers include Elyse Pettaway (4th in the 200 and the first place finisher and MAPL champ in the 400), Eliza Lawless (4th in the 3200), Ali Surdoval (5th in the 400 hurdles), Cassie Peretore (4th in the javelin), and Morgan Klein (5th in the 800). Finally, the girls' 4x800 meter relay team (Lawless, MK Heaney, Claudia Russell and Klein) placed third.
Congrats to the girls for a solid meet; we're looking forward to finishing the season in strong fashion when we host States on Wednesday.
5/5 - Boys' Results: Hill 93, Blair 78 (2nd place), Pennington 38, Faith Christian 19
On an overcast and rainy night, the track team competed under the lights for the first night meet in the School's history. Brennan O'Connor had an outstanding night taking second in the 400 m hurdles in his best time of 61.8 seconds and first in the 400 meter dash with another PR of 53.7 seconds. Alex Wolf won the discus with a throw of 125' 6", and Mac McLeod won the shot with a throw of 42'7". Lucas Barbey won the pole vault with another PR of 10'6". Gun Woo Park took second in the high hurdles (18.5) fourth in the intermediate hurdles (66.8) and tied for second in the pole vault at 10'0". Zach O'Connor took second in the 100m dash with a PR of 11.5 and third in the 200 with another PR of 23.4.
Tyler Saylor added a second in the discus (97'3") and thirds in both the javelin (112'10") and the shot (34'3"). Gordon Wong took third in the 400 intermediate hurdles (68.8) and fifth in the high hurdles (21.5). Jaz Kahlam ran 2:10.1 in the 800 meters to take third and Mark Jones took fourth with a PR of 2:14.8. Kevin Seymour earned two fourths in the 100 meters (11.5) and the long jump (17'10 ½") and Demetrius Daltrius took fifth in the 100 (12.1) and fourth in the 200 (23.6). Zach Bellapigna took fifth in the discus (81'11") and fifth in the shot with a PR of 33' 7". Ryan Wood took two fifths in the pole vault (9'0) and the 1600 (4:56.3). The 1600m relay team of Zach O'Connor, Kevin Seymour, Jaz Kahlam and Demetrius Daltrius took third to complete the scoring.
Girls' 1st Place Results
Hosting its first night meet, the Blair girls' track team endured rain delays and strong competition from Hill, Pennington, and Faith Christian. Our distance runners earned valuable points--Becca Cooley and Claudia Russell finished second and fourth, respectively, in the mile, and Eliza Lawless won the two mile race. The 800 meter runners, once again, dominated; Morgan Klein just edged out MK Heaney for first place, and Lizzie McNeill earned points for her fourth-place finish. Elyse Pettaway and Ali Surdoval both ran personal bests and finished first and third in the 400; Pettaway also finished second--just ahead of Maiya Gibbs--in the 200. Gibbs earned second place in the 100m, and Haeyoon Chung finished third in the event. High hurdlers Emily Steere and Sasha Tatham earned second and fourth, respectively, and Klein finished third in the intermediate hurdles.
In the field events, Cassie Peretore won the pole vault and javelin, Gibbs won the discus, and Olivia Jones finished second in the high jump. Freshman Mallory Fahey picked up third place in the discus and shot put as well as fourth place in the javelin. This meet was a strong finish to our regular-season competition, and the girls are now focused on Saturday's MAPL League meet at the Hill School.
4/28 - Penn Relays & Tri-meet v. Hackettstown and Trinity Christian
Boys' track sent the 1600 meter relay team of Gunn Woo Park, Jon Nowell, Brennan O'Connor and Kelvin Serem to run in the Penn Relays on Saturday while the rest of the team competed at home against Trinity Christian and Hackettstown. The Penn Relay team finished tenth out of seventeen schools in their race, running their best time of 3:51.28. In the home tri meet, the boys narrowly finished ahead of Hackettstown 67.5 to 65 while Trinity finished third with 38.5 points. Zach O'Connor continued to lower his time in the 100 (11.7) and 200 (23.5) winning both races. Demetrius Daltrius won the 110 high hurdles (18.5) and finished second in both the 100 (11.9) and 200 (23.9) events. Ryan Wood won the pole vault (10') and took second in the 3200 (11:16) while Lucas Barbey won the high jump (6') and took second in the pole vault (9'6") and second in the triple jump (36'1.5"). Co-captain Mac Macleod won the discus (113'2") and took second in the shot (40'4"). Jaz Kahlam took second in the 800 (2:15) with Mark Jones less than a second behind him for third. Saylor also had a third in the Javelin and fourth in the shot; Wong had two thirds in the hurdle events while co-captain Rodriquez earned a third in the vault and a fourth in the intermediate hurdles.
4/28 - Tri-meet v. Hackettstown and Trinity Christian
Girls' track - On a beautiful, sunny Saturday, Blair girls' track easily defeated Trinity Christian; however, despite dominant performances on the track, they came up one point shy to Hackettstown. First place finishers for Blair included Ali Surdoval in the 400m hurdles, Eliza Lawless in the 1600m and 3200m, Elyse Pettaway in the 200m, Tatiana Kalainoff in the 400m, MK Heaney in the 800m, Batouly Camara in the shot put, and the 4x400m Relay Team (Surdoval, Sasha Tatham, Heaney, Kalainoff).
Other noteworthy performances: Becca Cooley's placed second in both the 1600m and 3200m, Maiya Gibbs finished second in the discus and 100m, Morgan Klein finished second in the 800 and third in the 400m hurdles, and Claudia Russell had major PRs in the 800m and 1600m, finishing third in both races. We hope to build on this strong team performance when we head to Hun on Wednesday.

- Boys 2nd; Girls 2nd vs Hun & Peddie
Girls: The girls’ track team hosted large squads
from Peddie and Hun on
Wednesday afternoon. Highlight performances on the track
include Becca
Cooley, who placed in both distance events
(2nd in the mile, and 3rd
in the two-mile), Morgan Klein (3rd
in the 800 with a personal best
2:34), Elyse Pettaway (1st in
the 400), Cassie
Peretore (3rd in the
100), Maiya Gibbs (4th in the
100 and 2nd in the 200),
Sasha Tatham
(2nd in the 400 Hurdles), and Emily Steere (3rd
in the 100 Hurdles).
In the field events, Peretore picked
up second place finishes in the
javelin and pole vault, Pettaway and Olivia
Jones took second
in the
long jump and high jump, respectively, and newcomer Batouly
Camara earned third place in the shot put.
Finally, the girls’ 4x400
relay
team (Ali Surdoval, Captain MK Heaney, Mel Andreas and
Elyse Pettaway) finished second. For team results, the girls’ team
beat Hun
but was edged out by a talented Peddie squad. A great team
effort with
numerous personal bests!
Boys: On an overcast
but pleasant afternoon, Peddie took first with 89 points
and Blair was second with 72 points, leaving Hun in third
with 14 points. Blair had four individual winners, all with
personal bests. Gunn
Woo Park won the 400 Intermediate hurdles (65.9), Kevin
Seymour won the 100 meter dash (11.8) and Zach
O'Connor won the 200
meter dash (23.7). Ryan Wood finished
first in the pole vault (10'6"). Serem turned
in one of the strongest Blair doubles in the 1600 and 3200
in recent memory, taking second in the 1600 with a time of
4:32 and second in the 3200 in 9:51. Brennan
O'Connor had two seconds in the hurdle events,
running 17.6 in the highs and 66 in the intermediates. Zach
O'Connor also earned a second in the 100 (11.8),
and Lucas
Barbey took second in the high jump at 6'.
Jonathan Nowell also had strong
performances earning a second in the long jump (18'2 1/2")
third in the 400 (56) and third in the high jump (5'6").
Alex Wolf was narrowly edged out
of first in the discus by a Peddie thrower, but threw well
at 128'10". The 1600
relay team of Brennan O'Connor, Lucas Barbey,
Gunn Woo Park and Jonathon Nowell also
took second with their best time of 3:52.9. Captain
Mac Macleod had two thirds in the shot
(41'11") and
discus (113'), and Nic Flora took
third in the javelin with his best throw of 113' 7". Kevin
Seymour scored in two
other events, placing third in the 200 (23.9) and third in
the long jump ( 18'2 1/4"). Jaz Kahlam and Mark
Jones also ran their best times in the 800 running 2:10.6 and 2:18.9
respectively for third and fourth place.
4/14
- 2nd vs Mercersburg, Hill & Peddie @ Mercersburg
The boys' track team finished second behind Hill but ahead of Mercersburg in an 87.5 to 66.5 to 34 performance on Saturday. In another superlative performance, Lucas Barbey cleared
6' 2" in the high jump and was close to tying the school record of 6' 4". Jonathan Nowell (5'10"),
and Brennan O'Connor (5' 6")
also scored in the high jump with personal bests, as Blair
took second, third and fourth in the event. Demetrius Daltrius (17.9), Brennan O'Connor (18.1) and Gordon Wong (20.9)
swept the first three places in the high hurdles.
Co-captain Mac Macleod won the shot put (41') and Alex Wolf won the discus (127'). Nick Flora completed the sweep of first places in the throwing events with a first in the Javelin (108'). Serem won the 3200 meter race (10:24) and took second in the mile with a personal best of 4:28. Jon Nowell and Zach O'Connor both took seconds in the 400 (56.) and 100 (11.8) respectively.
The 4 by 800 meter relay team of Jas Kahlam, Matt DeSalvio, Mark Jones and Dan Kim finished in second place as did the 4 by 100 relay team of Gunn Woo Park, Kevin Seymour, Demetrius Daltrius and Mac Macleod. Tyler Saylor also earned a second in the javelin (106') and the 1600 relay team of Barbey, Park, O'Connor and Nowell finished in second place (3:56).
4/4 - State Relays @ Lawrenceville
The boys' team travelled to Lawrenceville for the state relay meet on 4/4/2012. Placing in all thirteen events that they entered, the team had medal winning performances in a number of events. Long jumpers Gunn woo Park and Kevin Seymour won first place as other good teams failed to qualify two jumpers. Gunn combined with Ryan Wood in the Pole vault to take second. Lucas Barbey and Jonathan Nowell had personal bests in the high jump to take third. Tyler Saylor and Nic Flora took third in the javelin. The 4 by 100m team of Park, Macleod, Seymour and Daltrius took third. The intermediate hurdle team of B. Oconnor, Coleman and Wong took a fourth as did the 4 by 200 team of Daltrius, Seymour, Z. Oconner and Barbey and the discus team of Macleod and Wolf. |
