Monie Hardwick, Director of Development
Monie came to Blair in 1989 from the Taft School in Connecticut where she was the director of college counseling and an English teacher. Besides serving as the Headmaster’s wife, Monie has also taught, been the director of new faculty, and run the Timken Library prior to assuming her latest post in the Development Office. Outside of Blair, she is a trustee of St. Andrew’s School in Delaware, where she serves on the school’s Investment Committee and heads the Personnel Committee, and a trustee of the Colony Foundation in New Haven, Conn. Monie received her B.A. in history from Yale University and an M.A. in English from Middlebury College. She and Chan have three daughters. She enjoys reading, traveling and being outdoors, and she loves Blair.

Christy Burkart ’97, Assistant Director of Annual Giving
Christy graduated from Blair in 1997 and joined the Blair development team in 2004. She works closely with all Class Reps and, in particular, acts as a liaison with all younger alumni classes. She also coordinates the annual senior class giving campaign and, outside of the office, is a member of the West Hall dorm staff. Christy graduated from Lehigh University in 2001 with bachelor degrees in environmental science and English and taught high school science prior to her return to Blair.

Jacqueline Class, Development Associate for Advancement Services & Publications
Jackie gained extensive database and publishing experience with the London-based company Expats International in its Williamsburg, Virginia, satellite office. She then began her own successful word processing business in the Williamsburg area before starting a family and relocating to New Jersey via South Carolina. Back in the work force since 1999 at Blair Academy, she enjoys putting her design and editing skills, as well as her knowledge of database applications, to creative use. Jackie graduated from Christopher Newport University with a B.A. in English. Her son Ryan is a member of Blair’s class of 2007.

Sue Habermann, Director of Parent Relations
Sue is responsible for coordinating the parent programs and parent volunteer activities at Blair Academy. She directs the parent giving program and oversees Parents’ Weekend, Spring Arts Weekend and the parents’ car raffle. She is also responsible for providing support for parent committees and keeps parents up-to-date on current happenings via the Web site and the Parents’ Post.
     Sue and her husband Bill live in Blairstown and have three children, Eric ’07, Meredith ’04, and Will ’02. Before starting her family, she taught English. Sue also has experience in personnel management and with numerous non-profit agencies.
     During her time at Blair, she has worked in many capacities. She coordinated Blair’s Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) year-long celebration, was director of special events and oversaw the school’s Bartow Performing Arts Series for three years. Holding a B.A. in Liberal Arts from The University of Massachusetts, she has also completed graduate work at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Lee Horne ’77, Development Associate for Advancement Services
Lee is a graduate of the class of 1977. Her sons, Drew ’05 and Kyle ’02, are also members of the Blair community. Lee came to work at Blair in the spring of 1999 and enjoys being here as an alumnae and a parent. She manages the database and processes all gifts to Blair.

Velma Lubliner, Development Associate for Annual Giving and Parent Relations
A Blair parent volunteer for five years, Velma, parent of Justin ’05 and Jenna ’09, joined the development office as an associate, working with alumni and parent relations programs. Prior to coming to Blair, she worked at The Evergreen Community School in Mountain Home, Pa., at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and taught voice at the New York School for Commercial Music. She is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing, and continues teaching voice in Stroudsburg, Pa. Velma graduated from The Pennsylvania State University. Her husband Sheldon is a talent agent at Professional Artists in New York City.

Jenny Maine, Director of Alumni Relations
Jenny started her Blair career in the Admission Office as the associate director from 1986-1991. In 1989, she founded and coached the first girls’ soccer team. In the summer of 1991, she took a 10-year hiatus from Blair and moved back to her hometown in Minneapolis, Minn., and served as the annual fund/alumni director and special events coordinator for her alma mater, The Blake School, for 10 years. Back at Blair since 2001, Jenny has thoroughly enjoyed her role as alumni director. Jenny is married to Eric Maine ’77. They have two children, Jack and Harley.

Melanie McMahon, Director of Publications and Press Relations
Melanie joined Blair Academy in May of 1999. Her first task as editor of the school’s alumni magazine was to revise and redesign the Blair Bulletin. She is pleased to note that this publication has since garnered three awards-two golds and one silver-in the independent school magazine category from CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education). Melanie oversees all of Blair’s publications, including the admission viewbook/catalog (awarded a CASE honorable mention), admission visitors’ guide (a CASE silver winner) and the Web site. She directs the school’s public relations program and also teaches journalism, a senior elective English course at Blair.
      Earlier in her career, she held marketing and editorial positions within The New York Times Company. She later served as a writer and account executive for various New Jersey-based public relations firms and edited several trade magazines. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in communications, and teaching certification in secondary English from the State of New Jersey. Cara Mohlmann, Director of Annual Giving
Cara joined the Blair development team in November of 2004 after spending seven years at Lafayette College as assistant director of the annual fund. There she directed several programs such as the young alumni fund, the parent fund, the senior class fund drive and volunteer initiatives. She began her career at Blair as the director of planned giving and stewardship. This year Cara has taken on the role of director of annual giving – a great opportunity to use her annual fund background to work and grow the Blair Fund. Cara looks forward to working with the volunteers and furthering the relationships she has made since joining the Blair community.
     Cara graduated from Lafayette College in 1997 with a B.A. in anthropology and sociology. She presently resides in Bangor, Pa., with her husband, Josh, and two young daughters, Emma and Olivia. James M. Moore, Director of Capital Giving
Jim Moore returned to Blair in the summer of 2006 as director of capital giving after a nine-year absence. From 1990-97, Jim served the school as dean of college counseling; he also taught English, coached boys’ and girls’ varsity squash, and worked in West, Insley and Locke. Before coming back to Blair, Jim was director of alumni relations at the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester for five years. Following his tenure at Simon, he was consultant to clients across the United States in the software, medical technology and publishing industries. During that period, he also served as president of the Rochester Squash Racquets Association and board chairman of Writers & Books, a literary organization with 1,500 members and two facilities in Western New York State. Jim earned a BA from Cornell and has done graduate work in English and business at Georgetown and Drew Universities and the University of Rochester. He and his children, Emma and Harry, live in the commodious apartment above the Health Center, between East and Insley Halls.

Amy Paul ’03, Director of Stewardship
Amy graduated from Blair in 1999 and joined the development team in 2007. She attended Barnard College, where she was a member of the Columbia women’s lacrosse team and received a B.A in English with a concentration in American literature. After graduating in 2003, Amy worked in the marketing field for a book publishing house in New York and later as an account executive at an advertising firm servicing book publishing clients. At Blair, her main focus is overall donor stewardship. Amy is also a member of the West Hall dorm staff and assists with the field hockey and girl’s lacrosse programs. She loves Blair and is thrilled to be back.

Joe Perz, Director of Advancement Services
Joe joined the development team in 2001 after spending 12 years in Drew University’s development office. He coordinates donor research, the alumni data base and the development office’s use of technology. Joe graduated from Drew University with a degree in political science. His step-daughter Tamara is a member of the class of 2006.

Susan N. Staats, Development Associate
Susan joined the Blair community in 1981 and currently works with the director of development, assisting in the areas of major gift prospects, and maintaining the prospect tracking. Other responsibilities include record keeping for planned giving, assisting with the coordination of Board of Trustee events, maintaining the accounting records for capital gifts received, maintaining historical documents regarding Trustees, covenants, deeds of trusts, resolutions, bylaw amendments and Blair family genealogy. She has done various projects from designing scholarship brochures to creating computer training manuals. She is also the proud mother of Todd Quelet ’96.
