Planned Giving... More Than a Gift
Is there a typical Blair experience? One might say that attending the School for four years and building a strong educational base for college and a successful career comprise a positive and transforming opportunity. This is certainly true for Steve Losa ’58.

Steve took advantage of much of what Blair had to offer. As is the case for many alumni, he has fond memories of favorite teachers like Henry Cowan, Ferd Marcial and Steve Kuk, his football coach. Other memories are of roommates and friends with whom he has built a lasting bond.

Steve notes that Blair has improved and grown over the years, reinforcing his decision to help the School. “To me, Blair was always a little school in a little town outside of Newton,” he said. “Blair has advanced to an outstanding academic institution that prepares students for college and beyond. The School is now more than just a little community. Today Blair stands up to the best prep schools around the country.”

The sense of respect that Steve has for Blair is part of the reason for the estate gift he made to Blair. In 1992 he established a Charitable Remainder Unitrust with Blair as the beneficiary. Steve said there were several practical reasons for his interest in providing Blair and future generations of students with his gift. He liked the idea of receiving a steady income and having a tax advantage while providing Blair with an opportunity for a healthy future.

A more personal reason for creating a Charitable Remainder Unitrust was to provide scholarship opportunities. As a student at Blair, Steve benefited from the generous support of people before him. Steve saw a Charitable Remainder Unitrust as a way to “provide scholarships and attract students with great potential who would not have otherwise attended Blair Academy.”
