The Parent Fund

Current parents have recently been among Blair’s strongest supporters and most ardent advocates. Last year 77% of current parents made gifts to Blair.

Why should I give to the Blair Parent Fund?
Many parents do not realize that tuition alone does not cover the actual cost of their student’s Blair education. In fact, full tuition covers only 73% of the actual cost of education a student. The other 27% comes from gifts to the Blair Fund or the endowment. That is why Blair relies on gifts from alumni, parents and friends to help provide the margin of excellence for the educational experience for which Blair is renowned.

As an independent school, Blair receives no financial support from local, state or federal governments. Your contribution to the Parent Fund goes to work immediately – providing essential support for teaching, financial aid, the arts, athletics, technology, international experiences and other extra-curricular programs. Your gift to the Parent Fund impacts all aspects of your child’s academic and cultural life at Blair every day.

How does the Parent Fund work?
From September to May, all parents are invited through mailings, information sessions and phone calls from fellow parents to consider making a gift to the Parent Fund.

Who runs the Parent Fund?
The Parent Fund is run by the Parent Fund Group and consists of 40 Blair families representing parents of current Blair students. Barry (class of ’67) and Eileen Smith, parents of Dan ’09, are the co-chairs of the group. They invite other parents to join them in supporting Blair by considering a gift to the Parent Fund.

Will my gift make a difference?
Absolutely! Together our gifts collectively have a real and direct impact on the quality of academic, residential and student life at Blair. 77% of parents participated during 2006-2007. The Parent Fund is made up of gifts at all levels ranging from $10 to $25,000, and for the past two years parent giving has surpassed the half-million mark. Our goal is always to have 100% parent participation.

How does our gift to the Parent Fund tie in with “Ever Always: The Campaign for Blair?”
All gifts made to Blair’s Parent Fund will count toward the Campaign. One objective of the campaign is to provide improved facilities such as a new student and athletic center, attract and retain a strong and engaged faculty, and offer the additional financial support necessary to ensure an exceptional future for our students. Another key objective is to reach a sustainable $2 million Annual Fund. All parents can make an impact on the Campaign by making their best possible Parent Fund gift.

Please show your support of the Blair Fund today. Give Today.
