Mission Statement
The College Counseling Office provides college guidance and institutional support for all Blair Academy students from their arrival on campus until graduation, and, if necessary, beyond. Central to this policy is our recognition that those students who are active and responsible about the application process will arrive at the next educational level with confidence and a sense of purpose. To provide support and foster involvement, we:
- Encourage students and parents to begin the college search process early and realistically through a program that begins formally in the eleventh grade;
- Keep students and their parents informed of the expectations of the process and trends in college admission through regular communication;
- Encourage both students and parents to ask questions and address concerns whenever necessary;
- Offer guidance and access to necessary standardized testing;
- Hold regular, individual meetings with students beginning in February of the eleventh grade;
- Stress the educational aspects of the college search process while paying strict attention to its more concrete realities and demands;
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Blair Academys curriculum and community life so that we may always view the admission process in context and with understanding;
- Advocate curricular changes in which we, as educators, believe, and work with the faculty to help prepare our students for the rigor of academic life in college;
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the college admission process and up-to-date repository of information of higher education and financial aid;
- Develop relationships with admission personnel at a wide variety of institutions so that we may represent Blair Academy, its curriculum, and its students in a positive and honest fashion;
- Assert and affirm our goal that our students matriculate at the colleges and universities most appropriate to their preparation, talents, and potential.
