Application Process
Application Procedures
- “Pink sheets” (located in the College Counseling Office) for online or paper applications (including essays and application fee) should be submitted to Mrs. Klesik at least two weeks prior to the application deadline. A. When you have completed either online or paper applications, you must fill out a “pink sheet,” for each college. Don’t just leave anything on Mrs. Klesik’s desk and expect it to be taken care of.B. Credit cards can be used for online applications when space is provided. Checks for application fees must accompany each paper application. Do not bring cash or ask one of us to write a check for you. Applications will not be sent unless accompanied by a fee.
- Deadline for “rolling” applications is September 30. Remember, getting your application in early will help your chances for admission at schools with rolling admissions policies. ** U of Cal. applicants should see your counselor immediately; the application requires special care.
- Early Applicants should find out their Early Decision/Action Notification deadlines ASAP. Those who have an October 15/ November 1 deadline must talk to one of us immediately; others should be ready to hand their applications to us soon.
- Those applying to schools whose deadlines are on or around January 1 must have their applications to those schools submitted to Mrs. Klesik by December 1.
A. For those whose applications have a Part I and Part II: Part I is usually very simple and doesn’t require any action by the College Counseling Office. You should send it with the fee directly to the college as soon as you know you want to apply to that college. Please remember to inform Mrs. Klesik that you have sent in a Part I. If Part II is not available online, it will take at least two weeks to get to you and will need as much attention from this office as a regular application. Plan accordingly.
- Discuss teacher recommendations with your counselor and then ask your teachers as soon as possible to write for you. Give them the appropriate “green sheet” which is available in the College Counseling Office. Please be sure you tell Mrs. Klesik the names of the teachers you have chosen to write recs for you.
- Make sure you know which, if any, SAT I/II’s each college requires. That information is available in the Naviance program under colleges in the Family Connection or on the college’s individual website. Talk with your counselor about the tests if you haven’t done so. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU MUST TAKE MORE SAT II's.
