News & Events 2005-2006 Public Speaking Contest Covers Range of Topics
The annual Public Speaking Contest occurred on April 20 in Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts. Ben Jayson, who won first prize ($100), had the audience alternately in tears then stitches with his presentation about a supposed pet dog, while Keith Page and Christina Giambrone spoke of personal trials at home and at Blair, taking second ($50) and third ($25) prizes, respectively.
All seniors are required to take the public speaking course offered in the spring. English teacher Tom Parauda explained, “The contest is offered as a competitive but fun way to encourage seniors to address their peers in a formal environment. Each of the seven to eight sections of public speaking presents a student as a representative for that class. All seniors, along with various faculty and underclassmen, meet to hear those speeches. The judges consist of members of the faculty from various disciplines.” Updated 4/21/06
