Battling Cancer on the Court
Blair’s Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament on December 9 and 10 featured some of the nation’s top players from some of the best East Coast prep schools playing high-level basketball. Many of the players competing in the tournament will also compete at area colleges and universities in the future.
The tournament schedule was as follows:
Hill School vs. Northfield Mount Herman School (NMH)
Blair vs. Episcopal School
Hill vs. Episcopal

The competition was held in Blair’s Walker Gymnasium, with proceeds from the tournament benefiting the Coaches vs. Cancer Fund. This fund teams up the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches to win the fight against cancer.
Blair’s head basketball coach, Joe Mantegna, noted that Blair “players to watch” included Patrick Hazel (committed to Marquette), Alexis Wangmene (committed to Texas), Julius Coles (committed to Canisius) and Justin Robinson (top 100 unsigned player in Class of 2007). He added that players to watch from NMH included Tyrone Nash (committed to Notre Dame), Tyrrell and Jerrell Williams, twins from Paterson, N.J. (committed to LaSalle), Matt Glass (committed to UMASS) and Clive Weeden (committed to Dartmouth). Hill’s Kraidon Woods is committed to Arizona State, while Aaron Richardson-Osgood is committed to Cornell.
The Blair Academy Dancers (B.A.D.) drummed up spirit as they performed during the tournament.
