Public Speaking Prize Winners Announced
Winners of the annual public speaking contest – held on April 30 – were announced by English teacher Tom Parauda at School Meeting on May 4. Jake Fedechko ’07 (pictured) was the first-place winner($75); Denny Liu ’07 took second ($50); and Pat Hazel ’07 was the third-place winner ($25).
All seniors are required to take the public speaking course offered in the spring. Tom explained, “The contest is offered as a competitive but fun way to encourage seniors to address their peers in a formal environment. Each of the seven to eight sections of public speaking presents a student as a representative for that class. All seniors, along with various faculty and underclassmen, meet to hear those speeches. The judges consisted of members of the faculty from various disciplines.”
