Book on Bonsai by Blair Faculty Member
History teacher Marty Schmalenberg compiled and edited a newly released book, North American Bonsai, essentially a record of the first exhibit of North American Bonsai staged in Spring 2006 by the American Bonsai Society in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. All of the bonsai in the book were styled by North American artists using North American materials; included are four-color photographs and history of the bonsai.
Marty has traveled and studied extensively in Asia, Europe and Africa to further his knowledge of bonsai and viewing stone art. He has lived and studied in Japan and teaches Asian Studies courses on the history and culture of Japan and China here at Blair.
The book may be purchased at the Blair bookstore for $55.
