Faculty Art Show at Hilltop Country Day School

Art teacher Rita Baragona is the featured artist at Hilltop Country Day School’s Art Exhibition and Sale 2007/”Celebrating 30 Years,” scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, October 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (complimentary admission). A champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception with the artist will be held on Friday, October 12, from 7 to 10 p.m. (suggested donation $10).

Rita notes, “My flower and garden paintings colors act upon each other, creating light. Connecting energy and matter, the sensation of inner joy surrounds the viewer.”

Jed Perl wrote in Art in America, “What a nature painter must do is to impose some human logic or private poetry on the natural world. By this measure, Baragona is a very interesting painter.” Jed Perl in the New Criterion, wrote, “In Baragona’s work, flower painting becomes a metaphor for painting itself, color-as-form.”

Rita has exhibited widely in the United States, including 12 one-person shows at the Bowery Gallery in New York City. She grew up in Morris Plains, where in her youth she was a junior counselor at Peck School Day Camp. Currently she lives near the Delaware Water Gap.

Hilltop Country Day School is located at 32 Lafayette Road, Sparta, New Jersey. For more information, please call (973) 729-5485.
