Ridge & Valley Conservancy Concert To Benefit Forests
Featuring renowned acoustic performers at Blair Academy

John Flynn & Kris Kristofferson

Science teacher Rob Merrifield, who also serves as advisor to Blair’s environmental club Earthshine, reminds the Blair community of a fundraiser concert featuring three distinct acts – all of which have been highly touted by The New York Times and performers like Arlo Guthrie and Kris Kristofferson – on April 25 in the DuBois Theatre of Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts from 7-10 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). All tickets are general admission. Tickets purchased in advance are discounted. Tickets bought at the door are $30 per adult, $27 per senior and $25 per youth under 18 or high school students with valid I.D. Visit www.rvclandtrust.org for more info and tickets. A seedling giveaway and a tree dedication for the Blair campus are part of the event; several local Girl Scout troops will hold a bake sale as well.

The RHYTHM & VOCALS ARBOR DAY CONCERT: “An Acoustic Affair to Benefit Our Forests,” will take listeners on a musical journey through three popular genres of acoustic music, including Spanish Classical Guitar, Celtic and American Folk. Headlining the event is songwriter and activist John Flynn. The concert also features an Old-World flair with guitar duo Michael Newman and Laura Oltman on Spanish guitars, both fresh from performances throughout Latin America. There will also be a Celtic performance by The Atlantic Wave – led by Sligo fiddler Tony DeMarco – of traditional Irish music and step dancing.

RVC, a non-profit land trust based in Blairstown, has worked to preserve sensitive forests, water resources, open space, hidden natural treasures and scenic vistas in northern New Jersey for the past 15 years. Having saved nearly 3,000 acres from the threat of development at a cost of almost $9 million, the Ridge and Valley Conservancy hopes to bring attention to its new Limestone Forest Campaign, an effort to raise necessary funds and gain more support for preservation of what’s left.
