Accomplished Artists on Display in Morris Museum

Errie Kim ’09 (Flight from Anger; oil and collage), Da Inn Lee ’09 (Self Portrait with Still Life; pastel) and Rachel Tseng ’10 (Veritas; still life conte crayon) – all students of Blair teacher Rita Baragona – are among the artists included in a statewide show of artwork by high school students at the Morris Museum in Morristown, N.J. An artists’ reception took place in April; the judges spoke with the students and presented each with a certificate. Ann Aptaker, curator of exhibitions, told them, “You are artists now, showing in a major New Jersey museum.”

The annual Fresh Perspectives exhibition began 20 years ago in 1989 to provide artistically accomplished high school students a professionally organized museum exhibition experience and to recognize art teachers for their encouragement and effective teaching of these talented student artists. The juried exhibition displays outstanding artwork in all media produced by students during the current school year. This is a successful and highly anticipated exhibition for the Morris Museum and for participating students and teachers. According to a museum spokesperson, there is no other exhibition in any New Jersey museum that highlights the work of student artists to this capacity.
