Absorbed in Greek Culture Over Break
Thirteen students traveled with Blair faculty members Ashley Goodrich-Mahoney (history/art history) and Sam Gogolak (English/Latin) to Greece for 10 days during Spring Break. Sam reports the following: “Students visited ancient sites in Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth, Eleusis, Delphi and Athens, as well as the Palamedi Fortress in Nafplio and a few islands in the Sardonic Gulf. Traditional Greek food – souvlaki, stuffed vine leaves, moussake – and cultural outings with their Greek tour guide provided students with a fond taste for the welcoming Mediterranean culture. With classics and history-inspired faculty, Blair boys and girls learned about Greek life, from ancient hospitals and the origins of democracy, to mythical stories and religious traditions. Most importantly, this diverse group of sophomores, juniors and seniors formed friendships while engaging with a land that laid the foundations for so much of today’s world.”
