Student Spearheads Campus Toy Drive
During Blair’s last Chapel before Thanksgiving break, Catherine (“Cat”) Miller ’12 announced the start-up of this year’s annual toy drive in the nearby Sussex County area. As part of this program, new toys and gift items (newborn through 18) will be collected on the Blair campus from December 1-12. Boxes will be in place by the 1st at Timken Library, Miss Ellen’s Bookstore and outside the academic office in Clinton Hall, allowing Blair students and their families an immediate opportunity to participate upon returning from break.
Cat explained: “The toy drive supports Holidays Around the County, a toy shop for those in need in Sussex County. Last year, over 500 families came through our toy shop, and over 11,000 gifts were given out. Each family left with a plate of homemade cookies and a roll of wrapping paper. Through the generosity of our volunteers, we were able to guarantee gifts under the tree for over 1,000 children. This year we anticipate an even greater need; hence we are turning to you for your help.”
Cat adds that volunteers are also needed to help at the toy shop and in the kitchen, and donations of homemade cookies and wrapping paper are welcome. “Perhaps those students and families in the local area might consider helping us during the day at the toy shop. Our hours are 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., and 4:30-8 p.m. from December 15-18. We are also looking for teens and adult volunteers to work in the kitchen, restock the tables and babysit. If you have a few hours to spare, please email joan@passitalong.org with your date, time and interest. Thank you for all of your support!”
