Parties, Panels & Picnics
In addition to social events beginning with the Old Guard Luncheon, Golf Scramble and Friday evening parties around campus, Blair Academy’s Alumni Weekend event (June 4-5) included a special panel – moderated by Blair history teacher Jim Connor – American Foreign Policy Challenge: The War in Afghanistan. The panel discussion was led by Dr. Robert Textor (Blair Class of 1940), former Blair faculty member Elliot Trommald, and Alex Gallo (Blair Class of 1996). Textor is a former Stanford anthropology professor, while Trommald is a teacher and expert on Blair Academy’s founder, John I. Blair. Gallo, a former captain, infantry, is a West Point graduate who studied at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He is now a civilian professor at West Point as well as an associate for a think tank at West Point.
The Headmaster’s Assembly included recognition by Headmaster Chan Hardwick of Stathes J. Kulukundis ’60, Alumnus of the Year, and James D. Krugman ’65, who received the 2010 Citation of Merit. Peachey Awards were also presented to the following:
Outstanding Class Correspondent: Norman E. Beatty ’58
Alumni Volunteer of the Year: Richard A. Rubin ’68
Outstanding Reunion Committee: Class of 1960 & Class of 2005
Class Representative of the Year: Don Jay Smith ’65 & Meredith M. Seidel ’00
An alumnae soccer game celebrating 20 years of girls’ soccer at Blair was followed by recognition of Blair’s 30th consecutive National Prep wrestling title under the leadership of head coach Jeff Buxton. Attendees capped off the camaraderie with a cocktail reception and dinner in the Romano Dining Hall.
