Brooklyn Artist Exhibits at Blair Academy

An exhibition of paintings by Jeff Epstein of Brooklyn, N.Y., is on display in the Romano Gallery now through April 24. An artist’s reception took place on April 9.

In his artist’s statement, Epstein said, “My paintings usually explore the suburban landscape, often at night. The unpeopled spaces share indications of human presence yet the pervasive feeling is one of solitude, perhaps finding beauty or a hint of menace where none was perceived before. My paintings explore the intersection of the man-made and natural landscapes. The places I describe are usually unpeopled, yet share some indication of human presence. I like to work on-site and hope to retain a sense of immediacy in the painting as I try to convey the specifics of light, color and location.”

Epstein lives in Brooklyn and teaches in the department of Arts and Humanities at the Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College, Long Island, N.Y. He earned an MFA from Brooklyn College and is a graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem, Pa. Epstein is represented by Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland, Maryland. His work has been shown at the National Academy of Design, NYC; New York University’s 80 Washington Square East Galleries, Alexandre Gallery, NYC; The New Jersey State Museum, Trenton; Pfizer Inc. Corporate Headquarters, NYC; and the USSR Artists Union Gallery (Moscow), among many other galleries and museums.

Romano Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Admission is free.
