Jack Bogle’s Speech Available

With weather conditions at the peak of perfection, members of the Class of 2010 received their diplomas on Sharpe House Lawn on May 20. Following commencement exercises, the new graduates, their families and faculty – along with returning alumni – enjoyed an outdoor luncheon to celebrate the occasion before bidding Blair good-bye. Asia Bryant ’10 and Pat Maillet ’10, members of the senior class council, along with valedictorian Lauren Baumgartner ’10, welcomed and addressed guests.

A highlight of this year’s exercises was an address to the senior class by John C. Bogle ’47, founder, Vanguard Group and Chairman Emeritus, Blair Academy Board of Trustees. Click here to read a transcript of his address.

On graduation eve, seniors and their families attended the traditional baccalaureate service in the First Presbyterian Church, downtown Blairstown, processing there to the tune of bagpipers and walking past the always spectacular Blair waterfalls. For the second time in his Blair tenure, faculty member Joe Mantegna – head boys’ basketball coach and associate dean of college counseling – was chosen by a senior class as baccalaureate speaker.
