Art by Alumnus in Romano Gallery

Artwork by Dick Boak ’68, a former teacher in the School’s art department, is on exhibit in the Romano Gallery from May 17-June 6, with an artist’s reception on Saturday, June 5. As a student at Blair, Dick was inspired toward drafting, illustration and creative writing. In the years that followed Blair, he traveled extensively, creating several hundred highly detailed conceptual illustrations. After joining the C. F. Martin Guitar Company in 1976, he immersed himself in micro-carpentry and guitar design. In the past 15 years, he has created limited edition guitar projects with more than 150 of the greatest musicians of our time including Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Sting and John Mayer. He has authored three books to date about Martin guitars and his varied projects. Dick (father of Emily ’13) notes that his retrospective exhibit represents a selection of his creative output, focusing primarily on his intricate ink drawings with a selection of his unique guitar and woodworking designs.

The gallery is open to the public, with free admission. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. For more information, call (908) 362-6121, ext 5692.
