Student Director Wins Twice

Drama teacher Craig Evans reported the following news: Based on the Blair Academy Players’ winter production of Once Upon a Mattress, three nominations for FREDDY© Awards were recently announced, including Asia Bryant ’10 for Featured Actress; Chris St. John ’10 for Supporting Actor; and a third for Lighting. These awards are sponsored by the Easton, Pa.-based State Theatre and were created to honor high school musicals.

Craig also notes that Rebecca Dewey ’11 (pictured in pigtails, acting in The Diviners) has been selected as a recipient of the Civic Theatre Emerging Young Director Award and Internship as Assistant Director on Mainstage with the Civic Theatre in Allentown, Pa. Rebecca also won The Express-Times’ Freddy Award for student-directing the Blair Players in Once Upon a Mattress; consequently, she receives a paid summer internship from the Express-Times newspaper (based in Easton, Pa.).
