Dean of Admission in Asia

Dean of Admission Ryan Pagotto ’97 recently returned from 12 days in Asia where he met with current parents, alumni and prospective students at four Blair receptions. In Shanghai, China, Mr. Stanley Wu (Beatrice ’13) hosted a reception at Club Shanghai which was attended by Blair alumni Gary Cheng ’89 and William Bean ’91, as well at 18 prospective families. In Taipei, Benny and Sharon Huang (Sam ’10, Ray ’12) hosted a reception attended by Sophia Chu (Alex ’09), Yung Chi Liu (Lawrence ’10) Hsiao-Sen Tseng and Yu-Fang Lo (Margaret ’09, Rachel ’10 and Audrey ’13), and Yu Pu and Tzu Ying Nieh (Jimmy ’12). In Hong Kong, Bobby and Fifi Tsai (Kevin ’11) hosted a spectacular Blair reception at the China Club in the Old Bank of China building, attended by Scott Tatham (Jess ’11), Yin Wang Ting (Terrence ’10), Emily Lao (Michelle ’12), Erik and Barbara Ryd (Elin ’11), Angel Tsoi (Leo ’08 and Jacqueline ’12) and Sarah and Craig Dana ’87. Finally, in Bangkok, Kachorn and Tiwaluck Chiaravanont (Schwin ’10, Wow ’12) hosted a large gathering of prospective students and parents for a luncheon at the True Tower office building.

Ryan extends thanks to Wei Li (Nuoya ’13), Jun Qi (Jason ’13), Lin Ke (Eileen ’09), Xin Yue and Min Huang (Kevin ’12) and Kaitlyn Maillet ’04 who were all very helpful during his travels.

He also attended several boarding school fairs and interviewed upwards of 60 prospective students during the tour. While Blair will only enroll a few students from each country, many of them will not travel to America before choosing their school. Thus, meeting with Ryan offers a personal connection to Blair and enables the admission office to gain a better sense of the prospective applicants through face-to-face interviews.
