Speakers Spell Out Dangers of Smoking
On January 8, guest speakers Jan Bertino and Bonnie Anderson presented the Blair community with a one-hour program on the misconceptions concerning tobacco use and smoking. Through a Power Point slide show and an age-progression demonstration – a computer program and audience volunteers demonstrated the physical effects of smoking on a person’s appearance – the speakers encouraged Blair teens to consider the detrimental effects of tobacco use. Research shows that the use of tobacco products is correlated to an increase in the use of alcohol and other drugs, sexual activity, fighting, lower academic performance, an increase in absenteeism, and a decrease in attention span.
