News & Events 2010-2011 Students Compete in National History Bowl
On April 16, seniors Dan Cioffi, Sara Samuel and Morgan Gardiner, along with junior Robbie Williams, traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National History Bowl Tournament. Faculty advisor Nate Molteni reports on their success: “We played eight matches on Saturday against a field of 74 teams from more than 20 regional sites. Over 200 teams participated across the nation – both in regional qualifying and nationals – and we finished as the 33rd team overall, with a 5-3 record at the event. We won our final three matches of the day, getting stronger as the day progressed. Our four morning matches were played at Mt. Vernon. Later that afternoon, we played three matches at the International Spy Museum and one match at the Crime and Punishment Museum, in the exact studio where America’s Most Wanted is filmed.”
Nate added, “Our students were up against teams that have been playing for years, while we really had just six weeks of practice. So it was a testament to our students’ ability and dedication that we went as far as we did. I was very proud of what they accomplished and how far they have come in a short amount of time. Robbie deserves additional credit for being the lone junior on the squad and working hard on this venture while simultaneously balancing his heavy junior year course load. He’s going to be the powerhouse on the team next year.”
