News & Events 2010-2011 Skeptics Series Features NJ Supreme Court Justice
On Tuesday, December 7, New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Helen E. Hoens was the featured Society of Skeptics speaker. Her topic for the evening was, “Searching for Justice in an Unjust World, A Look Inside the New Jersey Supreme Court.” Justice Hoens was nominated to the Supreme Court by Gov. Jon S. Corzine on Sept. 21, 2006. She was confirmed by the Senate on Oct. 23 and sworn into office on Oct. 26, 2006.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on July 31, 1954, Justice Hoens attended public schools in South Orange-Maplewood., N.J. She holds a B.A. in government from the College of William and Mary and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Justice Hoens was appointed to the Superior Court in 1994 by Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, and reappointed by Acting Gov. Donald T. DiFrancesco in 2001. She was elevated to the Appellate Division in August, 2002 by Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz.
