Skeptics Series Features Animator J.J. Sedelmaier

This year’s Society of Skeptics continued on September 20, with animation designer, director and producer J.J. Sedelmaier. J.J. Sedelmaier Productions Inc. (JJSP) was started in 1990 by J.J. and Patrice Sedelmaier and produces both print campaigns and animated films. According to the website (www.jjsedelmaier.com), JJSP is “known primarily for their cutting-edge commercial animation, such as Speed Racer, Slim Jim, FootJoy, Hotwire, 7UP, etc...”, and was also the studio entrusted with 120 minutes of the first season of MTV’s Beavis & Butthead, the animation in the relaunch of ABC’s Schoolhouse Rock. JJSP is also the co-creator of the Saturday TV Funhouse cartoons for Saturday Night Live on NBC.

JJSP developed the pilot episode of Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law with Cartoon Network that “helped initiate the Network’s Adult Swim block of cartoons”.

The studio has received over 700 awards of recognition for film and print including the Annie Gold Award (Gold Zoetrope), The New York Art Director’s Club (Gold Cubes), Best Educational Film from Annecy Animal Festival, and more.

All Skeptics programs are free and open to the public. The weekly series, which has been in continuous existence since 1977, is one of the premier high school lecture series in the country. The program was an outgrowth of the Blair International Society, begun in 1962, and has served as a forum for the discussion and debate of important national and international issues. Over the past 30-plus years, under the tutelage of Dr. Martin Miller, the series has featured a wide variety of speakers who are engaging, accomplished in their respective fields and often controversial.
