Parent Newsletter: February 2005
WINTER GREETINGSTO BLAIR PARENTS AND FAMILIES,
Despite the frigid weather, life on campus was jam-packed this past weekend with activities. Students traveled to Philadelphia for the Ivy League Model UN on Thursday and to New York on Friday to see the New York City Ballet. Another group of students went to NYC on Sunday to see the newly renovated MoMA (Museum of Modern Art).
Parents of juniors made the trek to Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts to attend a program sponsored by the college counseling office to discuss the upcoming college application process. Greg McDonald, dean of admission at the University of Rochester, along with members of the senior class and two Blair parents (Patty Maillet ’77, P’04, P’06 and Joann Graupe ’02, P’05), were on hand to share their “college” stories.

By far, the highlight of the weekend was the annual Sadie Hawkins dance (the mid-winter semi formal when the gal gets to ask the guy). Midnight Masquerade was the theme for the evening with Mocktails at Sharpe House and dinner and dancing in the Romano Dining Hall, which was transformed into a galaxy of stars, moons and masks. Faculty member Katie Greene, along with girls from Locke, enlisted the help of many, willing and able parents to decorate. Special thanks to Valerie Tozzi P’08, Debbie DeVenny P’08 and Marlene Willburn P’04, P’06 for coordinating the decorations.
