Chris Pelletiere

January 11-February 6
Reception: Thursday, January 14, 7-8 PM

Chris Pelletiere – an associate member of New York City’s Blue Mountain Gallery – is a painter, collage artist, illustrator and cartoonist. He received a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 2008; that same year the New York Transit Museum mounted a one-man exhibition of his series of transit-themed collages. Chris’s work resides in many public and private collections, including those of Stephen King, Zak Norman, Robert Bloch and Roald Dahl, as well as the Metropolitan Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Modern Art and New York Public Library. Published works include cover art for two poetry collections, “Song,” by Brigit Pegeen Kelly and “Elegy With a Glass of Whiskey” by Crystal Bacon (both from Boa Publications), and the album art for the contemporary music collection “Little Noises” (Saf’lini Music). His work is currently available at the Metropolitan Museum Mezzanine Gallery and through the nyartworld.com Web site.

In his artist’s statement, Chris notes: “I am a painter, illustrator and cartoonist. City life has always played a significant role in my work. Recently I did a series of collages, based on the theme of transit, exhibited at the New York Transit Museum. The series started when I began to sketch daily commuters in New York’s Penn Station. I incorporated a variety of media: cut newspaper and colored tissue, charcoal drawing, and painting with gouache. The resulting work reflects my interpretation of individuals and crowds moving through the public transit system. Currently I am creating a new series of collages that depict a variety of above-ground urban scenes.”
