Blair's girls' varsity tennis team has something to be proud of this season, as they won the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) championship at Mercersburg Academy on October 29. Sydney Landau '20, Rachel Ninomiya '19 and Sophie Parker '18 all won the singles brackets of the tournament. Zoe Reinhert '20 placed second in the fourth singles bracket, and Rose Mascarenhas '18 and Clara McGrath '18 placed third in the doubles bracket. By placing in every bracket, the Bucs were able to take home the trophy.

Head coach Tracy Klein was extremely proud of her team. "Everyone was feeding off of each other's energy," said Coach Klein, who is a member of Blair's math faculty. "The girls all wanted the victory, and they could see it was not far. They wanted to beat the streak Lawrenceville was holding and get to that top level. They worked hard all season to do just that."

The team had tough challenges all throughout the day, as they had to get through Lawrenceville, the favorite, in order to win the championship.

"Winning this championship came down to Rose and Clara playing doubles," Coach Klein said. "Going on to the court, they knew that if they won the match, the team would win the MAPLs. That didn't scare them—instead, they played their best match of the season. The girls ran onto the court in such excitement! It was the best day, and the seniors were proud to end their career with a victory."

The girls now prepare for the last match of the year against Peddie on November 4.
