Database Administrator
The Database Administrator is responsible for configuring and managing databases and related software for the administration, academics, and communications of the school. The role involves identifying needs, establishing procedures, implementing new solutions, and training staff members with regards to data management. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to provide training and support to both teachers and office staff. The Database Administrator reports to the Director of Technology.
I. Manage Databases and Web Portals
- Review existing data and coordinate on cleanup and organization of data
- Establish policies and procedures for the management of data
- Coordinate on database upgrades and integration projects
- Manage and test web portals to data
II. Train Staff on the Use of Databases and Office Software
- Develop tutorials, identify online resources, design & deliver training workshops for staff and faculty
- Create and manage database queries and reports
- Research and recommend new software
III. Implement new software and solutions
- Perform preliminary tests on new database projects
- Debug software issues for end-users
- Produce documentation as needed
- Review data security and implement solutions
- Produce and test a data disaster recovery plan
Position Requirements
- Bachelor degree in MIS or Computer Science or related field preferred
- Strong presentation, communications and interpersonal skills
- Comprehensive understanding of relational database theory and management system
- Experience working in small development teams on data projects
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing requirements as needed
- Strong presentation, communications and interpersonal skills
- Experience using Blackbaud database or comparable database system
- Experience working with SQL Server
- Experience processing data with Java or comparable computer language
