It's hard to believe Blair's Headmasters’ Societies Games and the spring sports' season will kick off next week! Don't forget to complete your health history update in Magnus.     Blair Academy Players Present ‘In the Heights’

    New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood was the backdrop for the Blair Academy Players’ production of the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights. The show centered around the hopes, dreams, traditions and music of the neighborhood’s close-knit residents and tells the universal story of a vibrant American community facing challenges and changes.

    Headmasters' Societies Games

    The Headmasters’ Societies Games, now in their 14th year, will be held from February 20-24. This tradition gives students and faculty an opportunity to compete in games designed to bridge the gap between the end of winter athletics and the rigorous academic schedule leading up to spring break. Team Breed won the 2016 competition, followed by Teams Sharpe, Kelley and Howard respectively. To view photos from last year’s games, click here.

    2017 Blood Drive

    The J. Brooks Hoffman '36 Health Center will be participating in a Blood Drive, led by the American Red Cross and our student Blood Drive Captain, Caroline Haywood. The blood drive will be held in Tracy Hall Citation Room on February 22, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All students who are over the age of 16 and plan to donate blood will require a parent/guardian signature on the donation consent form. Please have your child return their consent form to Caroline Haywood or the Student Life Office as soon as possible. Parents, faculty and staff may also donate but must email Caroline ahead of time at Please let us know if you are interested in donating blood.

    Students Enjoy ‘Winter Wonderland’ at Mid-Winter Semi-Formal

    Although it wasn’t snowing outside on Saturday evening, January 21, Blair’s Romano Dining Hall was transformed into a winter wonderland for the annual Mid-Winter Semi-Formal. The fun started at Sharpe House, home of Head of School Chris Fortunato, his wife, Erin, and their family. Students from all grades enjoyed mocktails as they held dearly onto white roses handed out by none other than Mr. and Mrs. Fortunato. Students also posed for photos, which were taken by photography teacher Tyson Trish.

    Blair Delegates Participate in Columbia Model UN

    Seventeen Blair students traveled to New York City in mid-January to take part in the three-day Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition (CMUNCE) held at Columbia University’s Morningside Heights campus. The premier crisis-simulation conference attracted students from nearly 60 high schools worldwide, and participants gained experience in debating and solving real-world international issues in fast-paced, crisis committee settings.

    Combinatorics: College-Level Math & Creative Problem-Solving

    Combinatorics is an advanced mathematics topic that students typically do not encounter until they reach college, but this year, Blair is offering the class for students who wish to continue studying math beyond the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum. The course was developed by math teacher Benjamin Delwiche, who holds a BA in mathematics and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Boston College, and it introduces students to abstract and applied mathematics through strong emphasis on creative problem-solving techniques, and collaborative learning.

    It was a “wicked” good time for 19 Blair students who traveled to New York City on January 29 to see the long-running Broadway hit, Wicked. The trip was funded by The Mazza Student Life Fund, which annually supports School activities that enhance student life.

    Civil War Authority Glenn LeBoeuf Presents at Skeptics

    The Society of Skeptics welcomed author and speaker Glenn LeBoeuf on February 14 for a pre-President’s Day discussion of “The Making of an Abolitionist: Abraham Lincoln's Evolving Views on Slavery.” A passionate student of history and former social studies teacher in New Providence, New Jersey, Mr. LeBoeuf shared insights on Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States and issuer of the Emancipation Proclamation.

    Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology-related careers. On January 31, the organization’s director of education, Emily Reid, visited the Society of Skeptics to talk about how Girls Who Code is inspiring and equipping high school girls to pursue careers in engineering and technology.

    The Blair Oracle is a student-run online publication that features work by members of the community, including news, essays, artwork, fiction and commentary. The Blair Breeze, the School's longstanding student-run, print-based news publication, was incorporated into The Oracle in 2016. The Oracle also hosts Blair’s Internet radio station on Saturday nights, bringing interviews, news and music to the community each week.     Grandparents' Day 2017

    Grandparents’ Day will take place this year on Wednesday, April 19. It is always a beautiful time to visit campus and spend quality time with family. Invitations will be mailed to grandparents at the end of February with the option for them to register online or by regular mail.
