Philanthropic Priorities

Blair Academy has a robust history of financial support from alumni, parents and friends. Generous contributions over many generations have strengthened the School and helped make Blair the outstanding educational institution it is today.

Donors support Blair for many reasons and in many ways. We invite you to learn about School’s philanthropic priorities, each of which helps to sustain the unique student experience that makes a Blair education a lifelong gift.

My family deeply appreciated the financial aid that made it possible for me to attend Blair. I found a safe haven here and a community where I could grow and thrive; I continue to appreciate the fellowship of the School community and many lasting friendships. Blair changed my life, and I give so that other students like me can live their dreams.

Center for Innovation & Collaboration

CIC

Benefit to Students:

Opening in fall 2017, Blair’s Center for Innovation & Collaboration (CIC) will house enhanced technology, fine art and media classrooms, as well as a laboratory/workshop “maker space.” With flexible common areas configurable for both large group and small, team-centered project work, the building will provide optimal venues for cooperative learning and engagement with real-world issues. The CIC will positively impact disciplines across Blair’s curriculum, as mathematics and science will further gain much-needed space in Weber and Bogle Halls.

Financial Objective:

$11.5 million in gifts or pledges by June 30, 2017

Blair LEADS

Cross-curricular coursework in effective communication, ethical decision-making and meaningful public service instills leadership skills at every grade level.

Financial Objective:

$3 million to endow this program

Global Service Initiatives

Global Service

Benefit to Students:

Blair encourages students to interact with people of other cultures and countries through meaningful service opportunities. Students gain transformative life experience as they apply classroom lessons to real-world situations and challenges.

Financial Objective:

Our goal is to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in service travel during their time at Blair.

Endowed Scholarships

Endowed Scholarships

The Blair community is immeasurably enriched by students of diverse backgrounds who are able to attend the School with the assistance of scholarship aid. Competitive awards are given to qualified students truly deserving of financial assistance.

Financial Objective:

A named, endowed scholarship can be established with a gift of $100,000. This year, Blair’s 84 named scholarships and five scholars programs, combined with general support from the endowment and the Blair Fund, provided over $6.4 million in scholarship aid to nearly 40 percent of the student body.

General Endowment

Aerial

Benefit to Students:

We invest unrestricted endowment gifts in our most valuable resources—our teachers, students and campus. These funds allow us to better compensate our outstanding faculty, increase student scholarship aid, and maintain our historic buildings and beautiful grounds.

Financial Objective:

Our goal is to grow our $85 million endowment to over $100 million, so we can become less reliant on tuition for general operating expenses and better secure the School’s financial future.

The Herb Siegel Class of '46 & Ed Sabol Class of '36 Endowment for Athletics

Athletics Endowment

Benefit to Students:

This endowed fund was established in 2016 with a generous gift of $500,000 from Herb Siegel ’46 in honor of his lifelong friendship with Ed Sabol ’36, founder of NFL Films. Monies from the Siegel-Sabol Endowment and individual team endowments offer all Blair athletes the opportunity to participate in training trips, events and programs, regardless of financial ability.

Financial Objective:

Our goal is to grow this fund to $1 million by June 30, 2017.

Athletic Team Endowments

Athletic Endowment

Benefit to students:

Monies from team-specific endowed funds are used at the coaches’ discretion for training and travel opportunities, state-of-the-art equipment and other “program extras” that improve the athletic experience of every player.

Financial Objective:

Blair seeks to establish $100,000 endowed fund for each of its 26 varsity athletic teams over the next several years.
