A Summer of Excellence for Blair Athletics

This summer, numerous Blair student-athletes have excelled in the offseason and have achieved national and international prowess in their respective sports. Eight Bucs made headlines by being selected to play for national teams, winning individual national titles, and participating in national and international events.

“We are all so proud of our student-athletes who have excelled this summer,” said Paul Clavel ’88, Blair’s Director of Athletics. “It is great to see them achieve amazing accolades. I am looking forward to watching them compete this year as Blair Buccaneers.”

Below are the student-athletes:

Emily Tierney ’25 of the Blair girls’ crew team was recently named to the U.S. Under 19 National Rowing Team. She was one of 52 rowers selected to represent the United States in Paris, France in August at the 2023 World Rowing U19 Championships. 

Sophomore Ava Fajardo ’26 had an incredible impact on the U16 Gilas Pilipinas national team, leading them to win the 2023 FIBA U16 Women's Asian Division B Championship. Emerging as their team leader, Ava dominated all over the basketball court as she led in points (16.2 per game) and assists (5.4 per game). Additionally, she averaged 6.4 rebounds per game as well as 2.0 steals per game.

Ella Gaitan ’24 and Milaw Clause ’24 were selected to attend the 2024 U21 Junior Women’s National Field Hockey Team Camp in January. Recently, the seniors competed for the USA U18 Junior National Women’s Field Hockey team, where they traveled to the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, making valuable contributions to the team.

Leo DeLuca ’25 dominated the competition at the 2023 USA Wrestling Junior and U16 National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota, and became a junior freestyle national champion at 120 lbs. He defeated all seven opponents he faced, including the No. 4-ranked wrestler in the country in the finals, where he won 12-0. Overall, Leo outscored his opponents 72-1 throughout the entire tournament, and earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Hannah Wilson ’26 recently competed in the USA Swimming Futures Championship in Richmond, Virginia. She competed in six different events and earned four personal best times in the 100 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle.

Sarah Henckel ’26 became a Pan American champion this past June in Mexico City, Mexico. Additionally, she placed second at the U17 Women’s National Championships.

Isabela Grant ’26 represented Panama in the U17 FIBA Centrobasket Championship in Nicaragua from August 5 to August 9. In a game against the Dominican Republic, she earned a double-double with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Isaac Greene ’24 placed fourth in the 800 meter run national elite event with a time of 1:55.93 at the 2023 Adidas Outdoor National Championships at North Carolina A&T University in June. Additionally, he placed fifth in the one mile national elite event with a time of 4:20.63.

Jocelyn O’Keeffe ’24 was named to the 2023 NFCA All-Region First Team after her softball season this past spring. She is one of 12 softball players to make the team that represents New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
