Blair Field Hockey Wins State Championship
Rhett Moroses '13

For the first time since 1998, Blair’s varsity field hockey team won the 2022 NJISAA Prep A State Championship with a resounding 2-0 victory over the Lawrenceville School. This was a hard-fought game for the Bucs, but Blair prevailed with excellent offensive play and shutdown defense. The victory marks the first time that Blair has beaten Lawrenceville in the state championship in several years.

“This NJISAA Prep A State Championship title is an incredible accomplishment for our team and program at large,” said Pamela Schulman, head Blair field hockey coach. “The culture our team created—one filled with teamwork, selflessness, joy, dedication, passionate play, and sportsmanship—is everything we could have asked for, and that is what got us to this point. Our senior leaders were instrumental in paving the way for this win and setting the tone for years to come.”

Goals were scored by senior Mia Leddy ’23 and junior Ella Gaitan ’24. Ella Sloan ’23 recorded one assist on Mia’s goal. Defensively, ninth-grade goalkeeper Casey Kozelnik ’26 played one of the best games of the season, recording 16 saves in the shutout win.

“This is a well-deserved victory for the team after all of their hard work,” said Director of Athletics Paul Clavel ‘88. “It’s the icing on the cake of a great season.”

The team holds a current record of 14-2 and is ranked fifth in New Jersey by MAX Field Hockey. Blair will end their season this Saturday, November 5, as they take on the Peddie Falcons in Hightstown, New Jersey, at 1 p.m.
