Blair’s very own Sela Rozov ’27 and Salah Tsarni ’27 will be competing in the upcoming U17 Wrestling World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 27 to August 2 at the National Gymnastics Arena. The competition will kick off with Greco-Roman, then move to women’s wrestling and finish with freestyle. 

Sela will represent Israel in the 53 kg freestyle women’s competition starting Wednesday, July 29, and Salah will represent the United States in the 92 kg freestyle class, which begins Friday, July 31.

“Salah Tsarni continues to jump levels in this sport,” wrestling head coach Ross Gitomer ’05 shared at the end of the 2026 season. “Although he is only a junior, Salah is exemplifying our system of wrestling at the highest level, always with a positive attitude.”

In August, Eric Bocanegra ’27 will travel to Bratislava, Slovakia, to represent Puerto Rico in the U20 Wrestling World Championships in the 55 kg Greco-Roman division. This opportunity reflects the steady progress he has made since overcoming an injury earlier this year. “Eric hit his stride this season after an earlier knee injury,” Coach Gitomer said. “He is becoming a leader in his own right, with a strong sense of self.”

“I am unbelievably proud of all three of them, as they have all made significant jumps in such a short amount of time in their wrestling,” Coach Gitomer shared. “This experience will be one they will remember for a long time, and they will learn a great deal from the level of competition and the international experience.”
