‘Clue: On Stage’ Premieres in Wean Studio Theatre
Ashley Taube

Darkness descends, tension builds and soon enough—you’ll be at the edge of your seat—because at the Wean Studio Theatre on October 24, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m., the only thing on the menu is murder. Based on the beloved Hasbro board game CLUE and the eponymous Paramount Pictures movie, Clue: On Stage (High School Version) is a subversive comedy whodunit that will have audiences roaring as they try to uncover “who did it, where and with what!” Adapted from the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn and written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price, this farce/murder mystery follows the motley crew of mysterious dinner guests led by the butler, Wadsworth—Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard—as they race to find the killer before they’re next!

“The twists and turns in this play are like nothing I’ve been a part of before,” Student Director Ev Rutt ’26 noted. “The audience will constantly be trying to connect the dots and predict what will happen next.”

Like Ev, the majority of the Blair Academy Players find working with the cast to be the best part of any production. This year’s play carries an extra layer of emotion, with five graduating seniors, many of whom have participated in several productions. “The Players are my family. They are some of the best people I know,” Eli Maloney ’25, who plays Wadsworth, shared. “The set is like a second home.”

The intimate setting of the Wean Studio Theatre, known as the Black Box, enhances the show’s suspenseful atmosphere. “It feels like the audience is part of the mystery,” says Cat Zhang ’26, who plays Yvette. With its close quarters and clever lighting, the space draws everyone into the action—especially when a cast member lets out a scream that echoes through the seats, like Stella Baceda ’25’s spine-chilling shrieks as Mrs. Peacock.

The cast assures audiences that the play will captivate even the most veteran CLUE board game player and anyone who has already seen the movie. Playing the cook, Josie Tetteh ’26 can attest that the play is a terrific concept to keep both actors and audiences engaged, and as her first murder mystery, she loves the fun, comedy and suspense that is sprinkled throughout the script.

“Everyone brings such great energy to their role,” adds Penny Wardwell ’27, cast as the dinner party host, Mr. Boddy. “It’s a fantastic ensemble cast.”

In her debut as student director, Ev says the position has given her the opportunity to work even closer with the great ensemble. As an actor, her main focus is perfecting her character, but directing has shifted Ev’s focus to the other Players, working together to develop their unique roles. “We have such an amazing group,” Ev boasted. “The new Players just blow me away.”

For anyone who loves mystery, laughter and edge-of-your-seat suspense, this is a must-see show. Don’t miss your chance to watch the Blair Academy Players uncover the truth—or become the next victim!
