Blair’s Alumni Roundtable series continued on February 10, when Melissa Guyre ’96, vice president of product at the popular online food platform Yummly, shared insight about her career in information technology. She joined students and teachers virtually in the Chiang-Elghanayan Center for Innovation and Collaboration to talk about her experiences and engage in discussion with attendees.
A 2000 graduate of the University of Rochester, Ms. Guyre is passionate about product, design and cooking with early adopter technologies. All of her interests align in her current role at Yummly, a company whose mission is to be “the smartest and most helpful food platform in existence.” A subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, Yummly is fulfilling this mission for its 26 million users by using data and learned personal preferences to help them find precisely the recipes—from more than 2 million available—that they want to cook. Yummly’s relationship with Whirlpool Corporation has expanded its mission to span the weekly home food journey and become the center of the connected home kitchen.
As Yummly’s vice president of product, Ms. Guyre is getting the complete tech startup experience. Her expertise lies in mobile and web product design and development. Since Yummly’s acquisition by Whirlpool Corporation, she has been learning about connected hardware development, as well. Prior to joining Yummly, Ms. Guyre led mobile engineering at IGN Entertainment, where she also owned product for their video platform and media content channels.
