Alumni Experience

I would advise prospective families to be open minded towards considering the adjustment of boarding school because although it may seem daunting, it is very much worth it. I have made the very best friends and had experiences that I would not have been able to get anywhere else, and I have my family’s support to thank for that...Blair's people and environment are one-of-a-kind and it's a special place of education worth attending.

Blair prepared me for college and the working world through its emphasis on teamwork and relationship building. Every facet of life at Blair teaches you to collaborate with others and consider their ideas, whether it be in residential life or during roundtable discussions in class. I have seen how important these principles are since graduating and am thankful to Blair for helping to instill those values in me.

The most significant and enduring aspect of my personal growth that Blair fostered was a deep appreciation for community and my individual role in supporting a healthy, constructive and productive dynamic within any community to which I am a part...These ongoing touchpoints created a level of engagement and intimacy that fostered a strong desire among community members to be supportive of each other.

There are two very important things I credit Blair with in terms of shaping me as a person. First, Blair turned me into an organizer extraordinaire, which has allowed me to really excel as a student, as an intern, and now, hopefully, as a full-time employee this fall...Second, whether through sports, in the classroom, while we recycled every Thursday, as a prefect, or even in the ceramics room, Blair really taught me what it means to be an equitable member of a community.

I remember being so excited every year to get my schedule and see which teachers I would have, and—years later—I mostly remember the interactive and engaging experiences those teachers created in order to make me love being in a classroom...I’m sure there was homework I didn’t want to do and days when I didn’t want to go to a class, but I have mostly positive memories because I think the Blair teachers work really hard to make learning an enjoyable experience.

College was an easy transition, thanks to the development opportunities Blair provided me over four years, from character to building relationships to reverence for academic endeavors. From day one at Lehigh University, I made a concerted effort to put my best foot forward and took the initiative to develop a role within the community, to ensure a depth of valuable experiences in and outside of the classroom — all thanks to my years at Blair.

If it were not for Blair, I do not know if I would have taken the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and find my potential in a sport I have never done before. By taking this leap of faith with the advice from coaches and friends, I was able to take this passion with me into college and hopefully beyond. Blair gave me the support and opportunities to not be afraid to try new things.
