The varsity swimming team raced well against both Belvidere High School and The Pennington School this past Thursday. For the girls', the defeated Belvidere 57-24 but fell short to Pennington 24-69. The boys' squad lost both matches, even with some great performances from the Bucs.
Leading the way for girls' swimming was freshman Hannah Wilson '26, who broke the pool record in the 100 backstroke, a record that was set in 2007. Wilson finished with a time of 1:01.09, breaking the previous record by a full second. She also placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.13.
In addition, the girls' relay teams performed well, finishing in the top tier against their competition. Hannah Wilson '26, Tania Lau '24, Piper Summers '24 and Riley Bacinski '25, raced well in the 200 yard medley relay. They placed 2nd with a final time of 2:00.58. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Allie Wolff '24, Parker Lesley '26, Piper Summers '24 and Katie Robinson '23 placed 2nd with a final time of 1:53.56. Other notable performances include Riley Bacinski '25, who placed 1st in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.40.
For the boys', Ethan Lau '23 led the way for the team placing 1st in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.91. He also placed 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.59. For the 400 yard freestyle relay, Blair's team of Ethan Lau '23, Dirk Peereboom '25, Julian Huang '23 and Bertrand Li '23 placed 2nd with a final time of 4:03.94.
Blair will compete next on Saturday, January 7, as they will host The Hill School at 2:30 p.m.
