The varsity wrestling team concluded their regular season of duals last Friday night as they earned wins against national powerhouses Bergen Catholic and Delbarton on back to back weekends. On January 28, Blair defeated Bergen Catholic 35-25. The next weekend, Blair defeated Delbarton 26-24.

During the match against Bergen Catholic, there were many notable individual wins, that helped Blair Academy win. The dual started off with the 144 lb. weight class. Blair went down 0-3, but did not let that slow them down. Will Henckel ’25 (150) had a close win by decision, tying up this early score. Lorenzo Norman ’23 (165) then had a win by tech fall, and Peter Snyder ’26 (175) carried his match into overtime, winning in sudden victory. the team score was now 11-8 Blair. Josh Anthony ’24 (215) had an excellent performance, pinning his opponent within the first minute. Carter Neves ’24 (285) followed this with a win by decision. Leo DeLuca ’25 (120), Marc-Anthony McGowan ’23 (126), and Matt Lopes ’24 (132) had three back-to-back-to-back wins, winning by a fall, a tech fall, and a major. 

This past Friday night, Blair wrapped their dual season with USA #6 Delbarton. The dual started with the 106 weight class. After giving up the first two matches, losing both by majors, the next Blair wrestlers came out strong. Leo DeLuca ’25 (120), Marc Anthony McGowan ’23 (126), and Matt Lopes ’24 (132) came out strong with three wins in a row, one by decision and two by majors. The team score was now 11-8 Blair. Logan Rozynski ’24 (144) and Will Henckel ’25 (150) both had great wins by decision to help push the team score up. After the 175 lb match, Blair was trailing by 3 team points (17-20 Delbarton). Josh Anthony ’24 (190) had a great win by decision to help the team stay in it. Heading into the last match, Blair was losing 24-20. Carter Neves ’24 (285) got the job done by pinning his opponent in 0:31 seconds. The final score of the dual was 26-24 Blair. 

Their next match will be on Sunday, February 12, as they host Navy Prep at 1:00 p.m. for the program's senior day.
