Blair Wrestling takes 1st in National Prep Qualifier

The varsity wrestling team traveled to St. Benedict’s this past weekend to compete in the National Prep Qualifier. Blair took first place with 253 team points, resulting in a 59.5 point difference between them and second place. Each wrestler performed extremely well starting with Leo DeLuca ’25 (113 lbs.), who was seeded number 1 and only had one match. In the finals, Leo pinned his opponent in 1 minute and 26 seconds. Also seeded 1, Marc-Anthony McGowan ’23 (120 lbs.) went straight to his finals match, where he pinned a St. Benedict's wrestling in 2:48.

Matt Lopes ’24 (126 lbs.), Ibrahim Ahmed ’22 (lbs.), Paul Ognissanti ’24 (138 lbs.), Will Henckel ’25 (145 lbs.), Nick Kunstek ’24 (152 lbs.), Lorenzo Norman ’23 (160 lbs.), Danny Wask ’22 (170 lbs.), Roman Martinez ’23 (182 lbs.), and TJ Stewart ’22 (220 lbs.) all won their brackets by either pin, tech falls, or major decision. The Blair Academy wrestling team heads into National Preps this upcoming weekend in Washington D.C.
