The Blair boys' cross country team won a nail biter on Saturday by a one-point margin. Pennington captured 4th, 5th, and 6th places, putting the outcome in doubt for Blair. Fortunately, the rest of Blair’s pack pushed back Pennington’s 5th man to 12th place, giving the Bucs the win.
To start it all, Isaac Greene '24 captured first place with an impressive time of 17:14. Isaac led from the beginning, with Pennington’s Dray Kaaras trying to stay with him, but eventually dropping back to finish 2nd by over a minute. Timmy Xi '22 was 3rd with a time of 18:48, fending off the surging Will Cooper of Pennington. Haruki Ono '23 was 3rd for Blair and 7th overall with a time of 21:29. Weston Trish '25, Owen Granahan '24, Michael Zhang '24, and Roman Usher '24 rounded out the top seven for Blair with times of 21:59, 22:00, 22:07, and 23:31 respectively. Roman’s time is especially notable as it represented a quantum leap in performance.
Also finishing for Blair were Andrew Hong '25 (23:32), Ben Liu '22 (23:50), Scottie Kimmelman '22 (25:26), and Tony Ni '25 (26:50). The day’s performance was a classic example of the team nature of cross country, since if any one of the top seven finishers had let a Pennington runner slip in front of them, the Bucs would have lost instead of won.
Blair faces Hill next Saturday and the team looks forward to the chance to get more runners on the starting line, and to test their mettle once again on the hills of Blair's home course.
